Update to 1.10.1

Asked by fraz

Whyi is the 1.9 Version used at maverick.
This Version is know to be buggy. The latest stabile is 1.10.1 since June.

I tried Maverick inside of our companie Network.
It did not work, because ntlm and kerberos is not working.

I compiled the last git-Version today and this Version is working.

the version 1.8 in lucid is working at office.
In my opinion Version 1.9 is broken!

regards
Franz

Add this PPA may help:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/aavelar/ppa/ubuntu lucid main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/aavelar/ppa/ubuntu lucid main

You will have to import the key manually, should give you 1.10 etc

I have logged a bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/647386

but this is not a answer, this is a work around.

I use this ppa on Lucid, but this ppa could break my dependencies on maverick.
Lucid is using pidgin 2.6.6 and Maverick 2.7. x

Well Ubuntu doesn't have the latest stuff as it isn't a rolling release, packages are reviewed and if the new ones close security holes and are solid they will be updated. This is to ensure new Linux users see a solid OS rather than having the latest stuff which may cause issues etc.

The advice I gave, although not using the offical repo, will still get you the version you desire so is a fix. The fact that it isn't in the official repositories is fairly moot and many apps are installed via 3rd party servers if the main ones just don't cut it.

Can you help with this problem?
