Fork the project

Asked by Balló György

Ubuntu has made significant changes to pidgin-libnotify to support notify-osd and the Messaging Menu. Since the upstream project is dead, what about forking this package?

In this case, other distributions could also benefit from Ubuntu's changes. Ubuntu devs already maintain messagingmenu extensions for telepathy, thunderbird and xchat. Why not do the same for pidgin?

Why don't you do it?

Because I don't have enough programming experience and interest to maintain the code.

Why does it even need forking? Why not just pick up the project and continue it?

Of course, fork is not a requirement. It would be fine for me if Ubuntu devs pick up the project, and include their changes.

Can you help with this problem?
