Escape code for picocom (ubuntu 12.04 Live)

Hello,
I run Ubuntu 12.04 on Dell Vostro 1720
I have installed picocom, it runs, BUT
the escape code (Control-A) does'nt work

I use a Frenh keyboard, is it the reason

hello,

thanks for your interest,
It is now solved
I go back to man picocom

I am not friend with the meaning of "C-x"
and finnally i undertood that I have to use "^A ^X" ( previously I tried "^A x"
