Can't find phpMyAdmin

Asked by andrew prudente

Hi All:

All of the documentation I have read says that I should have a copy of phpMyAdmin (a GUI IF to MySQL). I was expecting to see it (or a link to it) in /var/www/ which is the localhost default directory.

Anyway, if anyone knows how I could get it, let me know. Any help is appreciated.

kind regards,
andrew

Is the problem that phpMyAdmin is not accessible through its web interface (i.e. it's not working and you want to make it work), or is the problem simply that you're having trouble locating its files (but it works)?

Have you read https://help.ubuntu.com/10.10/serverguide/C/phpmyadmin.html (that's for Maverick; the Lucid version is https://help.ubuntu.com/10.04/serverguide/C/phpmyadmin.html)? Was the information and instructions there insufficient to fix your problem?

It does not work because it was not installed as part of the LAMP package. I was expecting to have at least a link to it in /var/www/

I am going to try a re-install of LAMP to make sure that I did everything correctly.

Sorry to hear you're having troubles.

Typically to log into phpmyadmin you use the MySQL root login. This MySQL root password needs to be setup BY THE USER after installation. If not then the root password is blank (ie: there is no password). Its recommended that you create another user for this purpose, or just avoid phpmyadmin alltogether, but the choice for you is yours to choose.

Cheers.

As for the location of phpmyadmin it softlinks to the document root directory, it doesn't actually install there.
For some great instructions, check this link (and its references) out:
