how to install tata photon in ubuntu 8.10

Intrepid isn't supported anymore. Please update to Jaunty (Jaunty is supported until October this year)

You can use this to get to Jaunty:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EOLUpgrades/Intrepid

You can then upgrade to Karmic if you wish, then to Lucid

Personally I would clean install as you need to upgrade through 3 releases to get to Lucid. A clean install will give fewer issues.
