Phatch: batch rename process?

I am new to linux and ubuntu. I am attempting to batch process some photos in Phatch.
All attempts up to this point have ended in failure.
If you have any suggestion .... I need Help!!!!

I am attempting to create a filing system for my photographs. I take lots of pictures in a week and i need an efficient way to label the shots while filing.
