pcmanfm cut and paste deletes files even if transfer to smb-share fails

Asked by WinVictim

Due to negligence I encountered an error in cut and paste handling of pcmanfm under lubuntu 11.10 on asus eeepc 1000h vanilla.

setting up smbshares on another win7 while its firewall was customized to block all incoming connections, i encountered that pcmanfm could see the smb shares and even browse them (win7-fw fail) but fails to upload to said share.

by using cut and paste instead of copy and paste pcmanfm tries to upload selected data and fails (rightly so due to the win7 firewall settings), that leads to pcmanfm encountering and reporting errors in the transfer. but pcmanfm concludes the transfer anyway by deleting the selected files, leading me to first-time self-compile extundelete. shouldnt it delete files only after success?

i dont know if this can be classified as a bug in pcmanfm file-handling or as a rather philosophical question on usability that is open to interpretation. therefor i ask a question on how to proceed instead of directly filing a bug report. opinions would be appreciated.

thank you all.

pcmanfm in lubuntu 11.10 is 0.9.9, 0.9.8+git in ppa. since i dont cut and paste anymore, not to shown but firewalled dirs anyhow, the problem does not persist. i work around it.

didnt find any changelog entries matching my description, so no need for me to upgrade from official loneiric to lubuntu-ppa. just wanted to know and let others know about peculiar behaviour i saw. thank you for your suggestion anyway, it is appreciated.

If you install parcellite, is it ok?

Can you help with this problem?
