Request for version update

Asked by Paul Mundt

The current version that ships with Ubuntu is 2.6.1, which was released in 2009. This version predates all of the git support code, making it impossible to work with git patches using things like rename detection (originally observed in the LTSI tree). Is there some particular reason why this package hasn't seen any update in > 3 years? If not, is it possible to have the package updated to something more useful, such as 2.7.1?

You should report a bug about this.
Visit "launchpad bug tracker" and open a bug , the developers will answer to you.

We are not developers here in "Launchpad Answers Tracker" , we are users - troubleshooters.

Thanks

You may find a PPA here:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+ppas?name_filter=patch

Be sure the PPA supports your release, you could also report a bug stating the bug and security fixes the new version gives. If they are significant it will be updated sooner rather than later

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask Paul Mundt for more information if necessary.
