Backup new 11.04 dual boot system

Asked by strikerazde

new to ubuntu, 11.04 installed on a 1TB drive with a WIN7 partition of 500G and the remaining 500G for ubuntu.

My WIn7 backup strategy is every month just prior to Microsoft Tuesday I clone my HD using ACRONIS 2011. Then install MS patches. Daily My Documents folder is backed up off-site to Carbonite.

I would like to do something similar with ubuntu. Not sure if Acronis will clone a ext4 partition or not, have to research that. If not is there a clone type program I can use to copy that partition? I can probably with some research figure out how to copy the equiv ant of My Doc's folder in ubunto to my NAS on a nightly basis using some sort of cron job.

would appreciate any suggestions as I am so new to ubuntu.

You can use partimage to take an image of the partitions (in liveCD so they are not mounted) and store the image. The same app can put the image BACK on too.
