GNU Parallel Using Non-Standard Settings

Asked by Tim

Hi anyone who sees this. I don't think this falls into the realm of a bug report, but the GNU Parallel package is currently set up to invisibly work in a non-standard compatibility mode for --tollef. Note that the option is currently considered "obsolete", and in fact the man page that is included with the package states "Do not use --tollef unless you know what you are doing." The workaround for this is fairly simple, it just requires a --gnu option at the command line to change the behavior back to the default, but this is completely invisible to the user. According to the man page, this is GNU parallel and there is no reason to suspect the odd settings. The most significant negative aspect of this is that the information from the man page is incorrect as the arguments between the two versions don't quite match up. If one googles for information about GNU parallel, many of the examples given do not work in the Ubuntu version.

After originally posting this, I came across a bug report for the same problem, so I think that my question ends up being redundant. Apparently when I first found the bug reports page, it was only displaying "new" bugs.
