Parallel in Precise 12o4

I installed it in 12o4 using the command "dpkg -i" and seems to be ok. Was this a bad idea?

Using dpkg is fine. It interfaces with the package database just as apt-get does. In fact, when you use apt-get it is dpkg doing the work. As long as dependencies are met then it is fine.
