12.04 pam_msql MD5 support

Asked by Mitch Claborn

Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit
libpam-mysql 0.7~RC1-4build3

Getting this messge in auth.log

localhost lightdm: pam_mysql - non-crypt()ish MD5 hash is not supported in this build.

/etc/pam.d/lightdm
#%PAM-1.0
# 0 = not encrypted, 1 = crypt(3) function, 2 = mysql password function, 3= md5
auth required pam_mysql.so verbose=1 user=fff passwd=fff db=fff host=fff table=operator usercolumn=username passwdcolumn=passwordhash crypt=3 where=operator.enabled=1
account required pam_mysql.so verbose=1 user=fff passwd=fff db=fff host=fff table=operator usercolumn=username passwdcolumn=passwordhash crypt=3 where=operator.enabled=1

This same configuation worked in 11.10 using gdm.

That problem should not occur as it should have been fixed in libpam_mysql 0.7~RC1-4 (see <http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=373834>).

I'll do some research in the following days, then I'll create and confirm a bug report if the problem is present even on my machine.

Cool. I did get it to work with unencrypted password, but that is obviously not an ideal solution.

What did you find? Did you open a bug?

Unfortunately, I haven't had time to research the matter due to my academic commitments and the fact that I began to fix a vulnerability in the same library - I'll do that this evening or tomorrow at most. Sorry for the wait.

Checking soon - sorry for the delay, but I'm preparing my thesis in these days.
