p7zip

Asked by peter

Hi

I installed p7zip from Synaptic. How can I execute it?

I created two launchers, one for the type Application and the other one for the type Application in Terminal. But both didn't work.

Thanks.
Peter

sudo apt-get install p7zip-full p7zip

then from terminal (Gnome) or konsole (KDE)

p7zip -d <file>.7z

Or open it with fileroller which will then be able to handle the file after you install the library

Thanks for the answers!

Actionparsnip: I don't have a .7z file. I installed it by sudo apt-get install p7zip-full p7zip.

Midnightflash: Sorry, but I don't understand your answer. What does "shanes" mean?

Shane Fagan: I don't have a file. I installed it from Synaptic and by typing sudo apt-get install p7zip-full p7zip.

Isn't it possible, to execute it it with a launcher? Thanks.

Peter,

7zip isnt executed as a gui app. It adds 7zip functionality to fileroller as well as giving you a handy command line (CLI) tool. The command I gave details how to use the CLI to extract the files.

Once you have those packages instaled, fileroller (or whatever gnome uses for extraction) will then be able to use 7z files.

If you do not have a .7z file, why would you want to launch the app, even if you could?

Hi actionparsnip

Thanks for the answer. I guess, my problem has solved.

I didn't know that p7zip is part of the file-roller. I didn't know the file-roller. I found it in Synaptic and I installed it.

Thanks a lot!

Sweet. Nice to hear success stories. KDE uses Ark but its the same method as you used for Gnome / Fileroller
