Someone else will have to help you on that one, I just right click on the files that I want to add to the archive and select create archive. I have never had any errors but it seems like it is trying to add files that are not there.

Have you tried creating a 7zip archive and extracting that one? Maybe the one you have is corrupt.

Jeff: extraction is ok, the problem is to make a pack

williamts99 : the problem happens when I try to pack a folder. this is what i do :

1. create a new folde
2. make a test file on it
3. right click the folder and choose "create archive"
4. those errors will be produced

Easily reproduced on my system also. It seems that it doesn't want to compress anything that is located inside of a folder, but compresses the files just fine as long as they are not inside of a folder.

we should report a bug them! right ?

first, for not having 7zip instalations instructions clear ... second, for not compressing things inside a folder ...

oh - it was already there :)

since the fix was released, how can I fix MY system ? :)

Well first you would have to checkout the source code from CVS and then compile it on your system. http://developer.gnome.org/tools/cvs.html would be a good start if you wanted to go that route.

Aught!! This looks painfull ...

My last question regarding this issue is - in about with time the bug will be solved on the debian packages ?

I use 7zip on my works, and having to boot on windows just to use it is very boring ..

Thanks!

Not sure on that, it is dependent on a lot of things. It's more of a wait and see kind of thing. You can still use 7z from the command line, if you go to Applications-->Accessories-->Terminal and type in 7z it will give you directions on use.

If you need anything else, let us know. If your request has been satisfied please consider marking this support request as closed.

Good Luck,

I figured that I would give you a quick example. Lets say the directory was named 'testdirectory' and the filename you wanted your compressed file to end up being is 'mycompressedfile' you would enter

7z a mycompressedfile testdirectory

into the terminal, and it will work. :-)

okay ...

Thanks very much for all the attention and care!

It's bad to know ubuntu-world has this yet another disadvantage comparing to the way other famous operating systems work :(

If on my earlier operating system, I could just download the 7zip installer from the 7zip site and it would work well ...

I hope you guys find a way to overcome this all-from-the-repository model - or I think it's going to be difficult to solve your bug #1!

I agree, I think it was just an honest mistake that didn't get caught in time. Hopefully this will get fixed and backported.

Just to let you know that I just went to the new 'TESTING' version of Ubuntu, and it has been fixed in this version.

great!!!

How can I install the testing version ? Or, how long does the testing take to come to "normal" ?

thanks for caring :)
since I'm persistent, I decided to stay in ubuntu even with this problem :) all my 7zip work is paused till now :)

That is good to hear that you have decided to stick with it :-)

Well I am testing Feisty 7.04(Apr2007), the next version of Ubuntu.
Though if you really wanted to, I guess you could install the new
version of libc6, and fileroller.

http://mirrors.kernel.org/ubuntu/pool/main/g/glibc/libc6_2.5-0ubuntu2_i386.deb

and then you can install

http://mirrors.kernel.org/ubuntu/pool/main/f/file-roller/file-roller_2.17.2-0ubuntu1_i386.deb

Though I don't know if it will effect anything else, I have tried it on
my other Edgy Eft system and seems to be going fine.

thanks!!! :D

then the only thing that sticks me to windows now is photoshop!!

I was about to post a support request on how can I test Feisty ... can you help me on this ? :)

If it's not something complicated, I swith to feisty and solve my problems :)

Well it is pretty easy, but I wouldn't do it on a production machine as
it WILL crash on you, not start sometimes, anything that can go wrong
should be expected to go wrong.

Though if you like to report bugs, and/or live on the edge, it's as easy
as editing your etc/apt/sources.list file and changing all instances of
Edgy to Feisty, and then doing an apt-get update, and apt-get upgrade.

I'm doing some works now with photoshop, as soon as I'm back home I'll try the .debs :)

Thanks!

As far as Photoshop, have you tried the GIMP?
Applications>Graphics>GIMP Image Editor it can do everything that
Photoshop can do(mostly). Most people can get used to it in a couple of
days or so depending on the depth of usage, as it is a bit different.

yesterday I gave my try .... it was a disaster!!! :)

1. pannels won't keep "on top". I don't understand why they are on a different windows. I click the canvas - the palletes are gone :(( Having to click everytime on the taskbar to see the tools is terrible....

2. I can't free transform! the ctrl-T doesn't work and I found no free transform button. This is some BASIC things ...

3. Can't find shortcut for zooming. this too was REALLY bad .....

As those are the most basics things .... I was REALLLLY irritated trying to use gimp and booted my vista instalation to install photoshop ...

Maybe I'll try GIMP again.... following it's manual. The tools looks really non-ituitive for me ....

do you know any awarded work made in GIMP ? This will surelly motivate me :)

Thanks for the attention and care! ;)

Well maybe it's not for a professional, my daughter got an award from a
school project that she did with the gimp :-)

Makes me wonder if it will run in WINE though...

http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=1815

Seems like mixed success.

auch .... trying to install that package cracked down my system :((

You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  libc6-dev: Depends: libc6 (= 2.4-1ubuntu12) but 2.5-0ubuntu2 is installed
  libc6-i686: PreDepends: libc6 (= 2.4-1ubuntu12) but 2.5-0ubuntu2 is installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try using -f.
wladston@wlad:~$

Now I can't install anything else.

Look what happens it I do what it askes !!!!
