Asked by Rob Pollock

Natty is now starting on login with a voice greeting... I can not find where and how to modify it... It bugs me enough that I will go back to 10.10

go to System - administration-login...then unlock it and remove the tick on 'play login sound'

\It seems the startup manager is starting the ORCA text-to-speech tool ( and leaving a non-responsive terminal window behind, no prompt and all I can do is close it) I still don't know how to turn it off!

I do not have System -- administration choice... btw I am running xfce

I did that by starting ubuntu classic session ... fixed it in that WM.... orca still booted in xfce ... finally went into synaptic and
totally removed the orca package -- that fixed it good :/
