Not able to login to ubuntu(running in vmware) with putty Network Error: Connection refused

Hi,

I am new to Ubuntu, many friends told about Ubuntu and features

I have installed ubuntu 11.04 i386 in vmware workstation8 successfully, i tried to login ubuntu with putty from my windows. I am receiving Network Error: Connection Refused.I googled, searched in many blogs,ubuntu blogs still same error coming.

Please help me in this.

Natty is EOL in October (no support and no updates). I suggest you reinstall with Precise (Ubuntu 12.04) . Not only is Precise the latest stable release, it is also LTS (long term support) and is supported all the way to 2017.

Did you install openssh-server on the system?

None of the Ubuntus install openssh-server by default. You were trying to connect to a service that wasn't installed...
