How do I get Ubuntu to recognize my web-cam (on board) on a HP 6748 series laptop? Also, which programs are needed to do things like video phone or web conferences? nu2ubuntu.

Hi! 'most' of HP's embedded webcams use the uvc spec and they should work 'out of the box'. In order to test it you can install Cheese[1]. There are several applications for web conferencing, Skype[2], Ekiga[3], etc...

Hope this helps!

[1] In Karmic(Applications->Ubuntu Software Center->Cheese)
     In earlier versions (Applications->Add/Remove...->Cheese)
[2] http://www.skype.com/intl/en/download/skype/linux/choose/
[3] In Karmic(Applications->Ubuntu Software Center->Ekiga)
     In earlier versions (Applications->Add/Remove...->Ekiga)
