For Unity.
Please press <win>-key (aka super-key) and start typing the first letters of the application.

There is a wiki, faq, user guide.

Sam,

Sorry, not using Unity, can't stand it 8-(
I'm still on 10.10 because of that and I maintain several Ubuntu systems.

Would sincerely like to know how to built the latest system WITHOUT
Unity. Any help there would certainly be a plus. As you might imagine,
this is not just for me, there are several kids and another adult
involved with whom I don't spend as much time as I used to but still
maintain their Linux systems. I don't like Unity and certainly don't
have the time to train them on something I don't know.

Now that I've hit the Windows and started typing OpenRocket my browser
opened with several windows. When I selected the first one it turned
out to be the Thunderbird window which came up with a BLACK background.
How do I return that to normal (please)?

It's not that I don't know computers, I've been maintaining VMS systems
(an ancient command line system) since the late 70's and actually prefer
command line for many things 8-)

Thanks, Dave

Maverick is no longer supported in any way. I suggest you install Precise. If you dislike Unity then you can install Xubuntu and get the Gnome2 feel, or install Ubuntu with Unity then install the gnome-panel package, this will give a new session for you to select at logon.

Open rocket is no longer in software centre but can be installed via sudo apt install openrocket it is later not found to be able to launch it so there is a new bug for it:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openrocket/+bug/1877385

I am guessing it is a related problem.

Can you help with this problem?
