Fonts download / install

Asked by drsjp

How do I install other fonts for openoffice.org2 Writer? I used to do all my typing in Arial, because it reads clearly, but now that I've converted to Ubuntu it is not available in openoffice writer.

You need to be sure your /etc/apt/sources.list is edited to contain the following sections: main universe restricted and mutliverse example:

"deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu dapper-security main restricted universe multiverse"

if they were already in there, then you can just:
$ sudo apt-get install msttcorefonts

That should be all you need to get the Mircosoft core fonts. They aren't included in Ubuntu by default because of legaly purposes.

Hope this helps!

I just noticed that I didn't make it clear about /etc/apt/sources.list All of your lines that contain a repository URL should contain main, universe, multiverse, and restricted. I used a bad example because that was the repository for just security updates, update all of the URL's in your sources.list. If your entirely new to ubuntu you can do this by doing:

$sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

Hopefully that cleared things up for you!
