Trouble adding numbers in a Column

I have tried many times to Add number in a column in the Spread Sheet.

Two things have happened.

1. I highlight the numbers and then I click on the "E" at the top an all my numbers change to 0.

or when before I played around in Options I would just get the following example =SUM(D15:D16)

I guess I am missing something in set up, I don't find this like Excel.

Hi,
This question is not very clear to me. I guess with the "E" you mean the Sigma sign (actualy an Σ)

try this: in cells a1 to a3 enter 1, 2 and 3. Then goto cell a4 end press the Σ and the green V sign.
