AFAIK, Openoffice can be used to EXPORT a document to pdf but not to OPEN it. You should use evince or xpdf if you want to open a pdf file.

I didn't try to install the pdfimport extension from Synaptic.

I usually download the Sun Import PPDF extension from the OpenOffice.org extension web site and install it in OpenOffice.org through the Tools > Extension manager.

Once the extension is installed, you can open PDF for editing (line by line) in DRAW; When your editing is done, you export again to PDF.

This utility is only meant for minor modifications of the PDF file when you don't have the source.

May be it is because of the formate. Open office still open PDF-1.3, but not PDF-1.6. Cold this be the reason?

Can you help with this problem?
