openoffice writer slow

hello,

I trying to open a document of 800 pages on my linux Ubuntu machine and it takes a lot of time to open it, how can I solve this issue.

besides the scrolling inside the writer freezes for while, screen lightness decrease and then it continue to scroll the pages

Some people suggest to use AbiWord to deal with large documents. OpenOffice needs a lot of RAM to deal with large documents make sure you have enough.

Maybe you should try to convert your file in a native OpenOffice format (odt for Writer, etc). I don't know if it will help.
