Open Office 3.1 - Fatal Error

Asked by NakiMum

I was trying to use Open Office today and kept getting this message

The application cannot be started.
The user interface language cannot be determined.

I've tried update and autoremove. I've restarted my laptop. Shut it down completely but nothing works.

Help me please

Try closing all openoffice apps then run:

mv ~/.openoffice.org ~/.openoffice.org_old; oowriter &

See how that goes

Hi there ACTIONPARSNIP & MARK RIJCKENBERG

ACTIONPARSNIP - for some or other reason this only solved half of the problem. Don't know why?

MARK - this solved the rest of the problem.

Txs you 2. Guys are the greatest.
Perhaps it's time for me to buy a new laptop? LOL

Not at all. If the system is performing your tasks at an acceptable speed and without issue then you have no reason to buy a new system.

Glad you got the gold

Hi actionparsnip

the new system is just wishful thinking on my part. Hubby bought me this laptop just over 2 years ago, don't really need to complain since I made the move to Ubuntu. On Windows Vista I had endless problems with it crashing. Since on Ubuntu - not 1 crash.
