How to delete footers?

I have ended up with footers in a document that I converted from a read-only attachment.
I would like to get rid of these.
How might I go about doing this?

Assuming the new document is from OpenOffice.org and is NOT read-only, you can go to Insert->Footer-> and then uncheck Default. Click 'yes' if a pop-up message asks to delete the footer with the contained content.

If you are using another word processor other then OpenOffice.org Writer then it'll be something similar to the above, but you can ask for help in this thread and I'll be happy to find out another option.
