open office 3 word processor not saving documents

Asked by john

I am using Dell Inspiron 6400 with Ubuntu 9.04.

I have Open Office 3.1 installed. This was operating well until today. Now when I save any document to the home folder, and then open it up it comes as a blank document. Any solutions to this, please.

We can try to trace what's happening launching OpenOffice via terminal. There eventually will be an output for errors while running the program.
To do it open terminal by Applications-->Accessories-->Terminal, paste there

openoffice.org

and press Enter. The OO will start normally. Create some document and save it in the Home directory. Then close the file and open it again. Close OpenOffice. Look after that for an output in the terminal, copy it if any and paste here in your answer, please.
Also give us some information about the file you are creating and it's type please.

Have followed your instructions. There is nothing in the terminal except the following

john@dell:~$

At the moment, the Word documents are saving correctly so I am not losing any work as I was before. It looks as if what ever was wrong is now sorted out, thankfully.

Thanks for your help.

Over two day, I had the problem of Open Office 3.0 not saving my documents. I tried restarting the computer several times, but this did nit seem to affect things. I carried out all the above instructions, as well as un-installing OO3 and reinstalling it. Then things cleared up, but by which action I am unable to say.
