Edit text of chart legend

Is there any way to edit the text of an XY chart legend other than editing the data column heading? I have found how to change format but not the text itself.

Hi Peter

It seems that there is no way to edit the text of an XY chart legend other than by editing the data column heading.

I even tried manually editing the underlying data file. That holds a cell reference to the column heading and a text string. Changing the text string has no effect, so it must always always be using the cell reference when it constructs the chart.
