OpenOffice / Calc: incorrect sort

Hi

I've a Calc sheet with the two following rows in column A:

Row 1: Go figure!
Row 2: Go figure it out!

If I sort the sheet in an ascending order, the result will be:

Row 1: Go figure it out!
Row 2: Go figure!

I guess this is wrong. Amazingly also Word for Windows does the sort like OpenOffice. Do you have an idea why the sort results like this? Thanks.

Because the space " " comes before "!"? By default, sorting character strings does not depend on their size, and "aaaa" comes before "bb".
