How to suppress headers or footer for a cover page

Asked by David Tangye

I want a 1st (cover) page with no headers or footers, then footers on the second page onwards. I cannot get this.

I can get the 2nd page to have its own set of settings, with the 1st & 3rd onwards having another set, but this is not any use to me. That is: eg I can suppress the headers and footer on the 2nd page by inserting a "First Page" type of break on the 1st page. This gives a 2nd page with or without its own headers and footers, but only the 2nd page has these properties, The 3rd page onwards has the same settings as the first page.

The "First Page" type of style seems to be conceptually bugged. As it stands it seems to actually be a single page style for anywhere BUT the first page, which is no use as far as I can see.

Ok I got the answer, after reading the Help. I clicked on the first page, then F11 to get the styles dialog up, and the Page styles tab. P1 was set to Default Style. Changed it to First Page style, then clicked P2 and P3, setting each to the Default style if not already. Then set in the cover page's Page Format to no header/footers, then went to one of the later pages and set in the Page Format for footer on, and set up the footer.
