How to add standard deviation to data points?

Asked by IK

I have started to work on a file in excel that I now want to continue on in openoffice. I have plotted my data points in a diagram and added the linear regression. I had also calculated the standard deviation in excel and now I want to add it to each data point (y-values). I have tried the standard deviation option under the statistics tab but this gives me much bigger values for the standard deviation than I calculated. How do I do it?

Best regards
Ida

hi,
for me this works perfect...
in a spreadsheet i entered the values:
2; 5; 6
the average should be:
4.33
and the standard-deviation:
1.7 = sqrt ( (4.33-2)^2 + (4.33-5)^2 + (4.33-6)^2 )

When i draw a graph with the standard-deviation indicaters this gives me correct results.

Please let us know what exactly went wrong...
