Keep date in table as entered, not in numeric form

Asked by Henry

Created a table in OpenOffice.org Writer. The first column is the date. If I enter "April 14", as soon as I tab to the next column, OpenOffice.org Writer automatically changes the contents to "04/14/09", which is correct, but I wish to keep the date in text form without the year, just as I entered it.

Cannot find where to prevent this from happening.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Solved! Use the Table tab, number format and enter the format of your choosing! Finally found it.

Could you clarify? Where's the Table tab?

When I said the "table tab" I meant the word "table" on the top row of the window.

If I open a document in OpenOffice.org writer and insert a table, the first row of commands
at the top of the window reads
File Edit View Insert Format Table Tools Window Help

and if one clicks on the word "Table" there is a list of choices:
Insert
Delete
Select
Merge cells

etc.

and down near the bottom is the choice "Number Format..."

That is the one you want, "Number Format..."

If you select the cell in the table in which you wish to display the date in a particular format, then click "Number Format..." in the table tab as explained above, you can define your own format, which was "mmmm d" in my case.

Hope this helps.
