Hello !

MS Word is replaced by OpenOffice, which can read and write in doc format (but ODT, OpenOffice native format is powerful enough to meet your needs if your not tied with .doc)

Internet access is handled with no problem (there are some difficulties to configure some WiFi cards and some USB DSL modems, but it's not the most common case)

Email is provided by default by Evolution, but Thunderbird (also available in Windows) can be installed ... There are a lot of Email clients (and servers if you need them) available ...

Well, for Lotus 123, I don't know what it does, but I dont think it will run in Ubuntu, but there should be plenty of choices for replacement ...

Hope this helps !

Regards,
Benoît

OpenOffice's spreadsheet is excellent. I use it with Excel files all the time. I just checked and Lotus 1-2-3 is listed in the formats it can load.

Thanks. I got several answers and together they are reassuring. So, I will
proceed to acquire ubuntu. Am tired of slow running and buggy Windows and
AOL.
