lost format

Asked by manolo

Hi to all. I'll translate menu options to English, sorry for the inconvenience.

After saving and closing the document, I lose all formatting when opening the document back.
I expect the below settings where sufficient to save my documents as .odt tipe as default.

Tools -> Options -> Load/Save -> General:
"Document type" is set to "text document" while
"Save as" is set to "odt text document".

I don't know if it's useful, but when I try to "Save as" I see "txt type" is set by default.

Thanks for your attention.

Is the file you are saving a new document in Writer, or was it loaded from a txt file?

By default a new document is saved using the settings in Tools -> Options -> Load/Save -> General, but an existing file will be saved as the same type it is loaded from unless you do Save As and change the file type to Open Document Text (odt).

If this answers your question, can you please mark it as Solved.

Tony, thanks for your reply.

The problem happens when saving a brand new document in Writer.

On the other and, it does work correctly when saving after editing an already existing document.

I found the problem and SOLVED it.

I wanted to insert a new .odt and a new .ods files into the Template folder of my HOME directory.
To do that, I just created a new Empty File just right clicking somewhere and chosing
  Create Document -> Empty File.

Then I renamed it into
  NewDocument.odt

and placed it into the Template folder. That caused open office to see it as a "plain text" tocument, even if the extention says ".odt"

It has been a big error from my side... because years of using f**king windows which recognizes files by the extention and not by magic number as Linux does. That's why windows is full of viruses...

Thanks for your attention.
Regards.
