how do I get page numbers to appear (print) on the pages of my document? Navigator does not help.

Asked by Renee Menuet

None of these answered my question directly, but the Bottcher question seemed to refer to the steps " insert-footer--insert--fields--page". When I click insert--footer, the only menu that comes up says "default".
All I want to do is insert & print page numbers on my document--very basic! This should be in the "help" table of contents to find easily.
What do I do now?

Insert → Footer → Default and then Insert → Fields → Page Number (found this via OOo Help ;)).

In Writer, click on "Insert", scroll down to "Footer", tick the box next to "Default". That will create a footer. Place your cursor into the footer and type "1". Then go to the top of the page and type your text.

Don't forget to untick the "Default" box when you have finished so that you can return to "normal" mode.

... and all this is described in "Help", type "page numbers" into the search bar.

When I attempt this all it says is "page number" without an actual number. What gives?

Can you help with this problem?
