I can not use any programs that I need, such as, microsoft office student. I can not get this mini computer to accept my portable cd drive.Help please.

Asked by Kim

I can't view or use any programs. It tells me there is no application. This is for everything I have tried to view or use. I need microsoft office student. I can not use it because it tells me there is no application for this program. I downloaded it but it didn't work. I have been trying to get this mini computer to accept my portable cd drive, it won't. I need this also. I would appreciate some help because I now have a bad headache working with this all day. I am about to return this computer.

((I need microsoft office))
There's OpenOffice 3 avaliable for Download, free and powerfull,
it can Save directly to PDF, import MS Publisher Files ( .pub), create Presentations with 3D transitions and Sound,
open and edit MS Office2007 files ( .docx, etc), seamlessly integrate with Google Docs, Edit PDF files, and more...

Optional: you can install microsoft office 2003 with this free software:

Kim you;re not going to get Microsoft Office to work on any type of Linux. It tells you on the microsoft Office box what types of operating system it will work with, you need to get one of those.

Alternatively speak with your school to see if they can provide you with your work in a way that you can use with OpenOffice.

Please ask your teacher why your school force students to use only Microsoft software...?
Please talk them about free inexpensive opensource world used software...

Simply ask why not...?

Talk and spread Ubuntu live install cd to your friends... and to your teacher...

Then try to make your student work using Open Source software...

I have a curiosity do you get Windows software for free form the school or you must paid it...?

Thank you

I whish you good luck, but remember Ubuntu and generally Gnu Linux when:
- you get a virus, virus on Ubuntu are not a problem
- you get spyware, Ubuntu and generally all the Open Source software never spy you
- when you must paid for software, Ubuntu is free and you can download and install it
- when you need help, Ubuntu have a good help from community
...

Thank you
