Why isn't Ubuntu 8.10's Openoffice 2.x being officially upgraded to 3.x?
Hi guys,
a very basic & silly question, the summary says it all.
I understand that Ubuntu 8.10 came out when OO3.x was still pretty unstable. That's fine.
But now, after some two months since the official release of OO3.x, I simply can't understand why the good old OO2.x hasn't been officially updated yet!
Anyone knows if we will be able to enjoy OO3.x before the release of 9.04?
In question #56110 "OpenOffice 3.0 on Ubuntu - can do?", Savvas Radevic replied on 2009-01-02:
"You could use this package archive:
https:/
You have to add in in the Third-party software at System > Administration > Software Sources.
It doesn't mean necessarily that it will work on Ubuntu, but it will definitely contain updates that will help out :)"
Did anyone try this solution? Does it work on Ubuntu 8.10? Does it upgrade OO2.x to OO3.x, or does it install OO3.x beside OO2.x?
Thanks in advance and best wishes from Italy for a Happy & Prosperous New Year!
