open office crashes when i paste information

Asked by arthur

When I paste information I have copied from either from another document or from emails. the document recovery popup window reads; Due to an unexpected error, OpenOffice.org crashed. All the files you were working on will now be saved. The next time OpenOffice.org is launched, your files will be recovered automatically.

Unfortunately, nothing is saved and the process begins again. I've had to save the doc in Abiword to get anywhere.

I run Ubuntu Hardy 8.04 with the updated Ultimate Edition loaded. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Arthur, I did an upgrade using Open Repository, loading Open Office 3.0 through Synaptic. So far it works fine. Here is what Jamie Watson had to say and how to do it:

This was a simple fix.

Thank you TWFJR for your assistance. I have not been able to update to Open Office 3.0 yet. I went in through the method Jamie mentioned and th problem ceased without any indication that an update occurred. It still opens as 2.4 so I will leave it for a week for another update. I suspect it will update in due course, thanx again.
