Can't upgrade Open Office to 3.0
Hello!
I've tried a lot of different ways to upgrade from Open Office 2.4 to 3.0, but nothing works.
The following thread seemed most promising:
http://
but it didn't work.
I put in the source-path as instructed, click on "Close", click "Reload". It reloads without any messages, and then closes down. I get no message about updates what so ever.
I then do same thing again, and still nothing.
You are my last hope! =/
Thank you!

To upgrade to OpenOffice 3.0
Please edit your sources list to open office PPA from Launchpad. From the terminal type
sudo gedit /etc/apt/
For Intrepid add
deb http://
deb-src http://
For hardy add,
deb http://
deb-src http://
Make sure you don´t have duplicates from previous attempts to install.
Next, please update by typing
sudo apt-get update .
Finally go to the update manager, and update your OpenOffice 3.0.
Hope this helps

I have the same problem, and the method given by Wyatt does not work. Intrepid is not recognising that there are any updates/upgrades from 2.4 to 3.0.
Anyone else have a solution to offer?
Thanks.

Edited sources.list
$ sudo gedit /etc/apt/
added to the bottom:
deb http://
deb-src http://
ran:
$ sudo apt-get update
got the update message on the desktop, ran that and found about 30 updates, none of them had anything to do with open office.
Installed them, rebooted, ran the update again, and found nothing new to update.
ran:
$ apt-cache policy openoffice.org
openoffice.org:
Installerad: 1:2.4.1-11ubuntu4
Kandidat: 1:2.4.1-11ubuntu4
Versionstabell:

Still stuck at OpenOffice 2.4.
I really appreciate all the help! What could be wrong...?

I'm having the same problem. I've tried everything here and get the same result - no update to 3.0. I had Ubuntu installed on another computer and it worked fine, but not on this one. Compaq EVO D500. This is a fresh install.

Found the origin of your problem
https:/
"OpenOffice.org 3.0.0 - INTREPID/JAUNTY ONLY

"
I'll see if I can find the bug.

On LP answer #52527[1] the users are questioning why they can't install OOo 3.
From what I can read on the PPA:

I couldnt find any bug for this on LP. Plus, I remember reading on previous Desktop minutes about this:

> * Preparing openoffice.org 1:3.0.0-4ubuntu1 for Jaunty
So whats going on, and why there aint a OOo3 package?
Even Fedora 10 beat us to it. [no flame intended]

This is really annoying. If I were in windows, it wouldn't take me 2 months get a new piece of software installed. All I would have to do: double-click ".exe" of the new software.
Ubuntu? Hassle.
If not update the Ubuntu repos, can't the Ubuntu dev team put out and update that it will Update the "source.list" by adding the PPA sources. Then, run update once again, and now it will show new OOo 3.0 waiting to be installed via the PPA.
The point being -- the new software should be updated automatically by Ubuntu itself, so that User doesn't have to worry about it. I am not ready to give any effort more than a few clicks (<3) to install new office suite as a user. Windows understands that, Ubuntu does not.

spandanj Ubuntu (and any other GNU/Linux distribution in general) will NOT do software UPGRADES to STABLE releases.
That being said, 8.10 will remain with OOo 2.4.1 and maybe, just maybe have it in backports (an extra repository that the user will have to manually turn on to get newer versions of software)
Currently a PPA (a non official repository, even if it is handled by the same person who maintains the official version) has a testing version of OOo3.0.1 available for intrepid and hardy.
Can you help with this problem?
