Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

You can find detailed instructions on how to update to openoffice 3.0 at the following URL:
http://news.softpedia.com/news/How-To-Install-OpenOffice-org-3-0-in-Ubuntu-8-10-96449.shtml

BTW, I used "openoffice 3.0 ubuntu 8.10" as search terms for google and this was among the first results. In cases like this, it is best practice to first try searching search-engines (like google or yahoo) and relevant sites (e.g. the answers-section here on launchpad). This saves time for everybody, as only one person is working to find the necessary information, not about 80 or so (as is the case now, as you can see in the list of subscribers to this question).

I think it would be very much appreciated by a lot of people if you went about like this in the future when having trouble with something like installing software

Cheers, Anton

I have the same problem, but when I put in the new source-path and reload, nothing happens. Synaptic just closes down on me. I'm on ubuntu 9.04, but stuck with Open Office 2.4.

Can anyone help me plz? =/ I've tried ALOT of stuff that I found on the matter on Google. Nothing has worked.
