More fonts

Asked by Bob Marconi

I have the latest OO 2.4.x.

Why does Open Office not come with fonts such as Verdana?

How do I ad such fonts using Synaptic package manager - when
doing a search in Synaptic you receive a great deal of 'results'
but I am unsure of which, if any, to use?

Thanks,
Bob

Verdana is not included because i think it isn't a free font.If you want such kind of fontstry installing msttfonts package from synaptic. It install some ms fonts like arial, times new roman, etc.

Please install msttcorefonts

Using System → Administration → Software sources [Ubuntu software] please enable all the repositories.

Then open a Terminal from the menu Applications → Accessories → Terminal and type:

sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude install cabextract
sudo aptitude install msttcorefonts

give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter.

Always useful is the online Ubuntu doc https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/
Hope this helps

I've installed just what Marcobra said (from synaptic)--now my question is, how do I find and access the list of the fonts that are supposed to be installed (the list in OO Writer is unchanged)? where is it? cheers, Rick

OK--I've looked into the list on the terminal--exactly as reproduced. But I still don't know HOW to access and load them. Rick
