OpenOffice - Language on keyboard

Asked by Viorica

Hello, I recently went from winxp to ubuntu, but i`m having a big problem with the languages. For example, I cant get the romanian fonts installed. on windows, the ] ; ' , . / \ = keys were asigned to specific romanian characters, like â ã î ş ț, in OpenOffice. I already selected Romanian as the default language, the type of keyboard etc, but nothing seems to help.

You're supposed to go to the System > Preferences menu, click on "Keyboard", pick the "Layouts" tab. There is a list called "Selected layouts". (Not the Keyboard model, that's a different thing.) You should have "Romanian standard" there, with a tick mark beside it. If you don't, you must click on the "Add" button (it should be to the right of the list), find the "Romanian standard" layout, and add it. You must then set it as default, or even delete the US layout if you never use it.

If you have installed the layout, and you are sure you marked it as default, then you should be able to use the keys as you are used to. If not, tell us what happens when you click the keys that should show Romanian characters. Do they print the ];',... characters, or nothing, or boxes, or what?

It's ok - I am romanian and your solution Bogdan is the correct one. It's working.

Can you help with this problem?
