"install openoffice 3.0"

"I can download the new Openoffice 3.0, but how in the world do you actually install it? Ubuntu lacks an install feature like Windows. Help; I'm new to this. Thanks."

To install applications on ubuntu you use synaptic or add/remove programs.
Open office 3.0 is still in its pre-release and hasnt been adapted to be compatible with ubuntu. Wait a while and openoffice 2.0 will be updated to 3.0 . My recommendation is wait, installing packages by not using synapic or add/remove is for more advanced users.

By the way you can install and use openoffice3 it don't break your openoffice2

Do you want use a developer builds or the release candidate ?
