How do I load my fonts into Ubuntu?

Asked by Ampers

I have a goodly collection of TTF (True Type Fonts) on a DVD.

How do I load these for use with Open Office in Ubuntu v8.04.1?

I have hunted on the Internet, but creating a file called .fonts and loading them into that doesn seem to work.

TrueType fonts normally go in /usr/share/fonts/truetype/

Create a subdirectory inside /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ and copy your font there, then restart gnome. They will appear in OpenOffice
