MS office suite contains Excel,Word,Powerpoint and Access softwares. Where as open office suite does not have DBMS. It is essential to have one. I hope this will be taken as suggestion for future developments....

Meanwhile waiting for answer to my problem...

Well, in fact, this have it. In the OO project you can see the project base (http://dba.openoffice.org/) and if you see the Synaptic, will find openoffice.org-base package, and in the description say:

----
OpenOffice.org office suite - database
OpenOffice.org is a full-featured office productivity suite that provides
a near drop-in replacement for Microsoft(R) Office.

This package contains the database component for OpenOffice.org.

You can extend the functionality of OpenOffice.org Base by installing these
packages:

 * unixodbc: ODBC database support
 * libmyodbc | odbc-postgresql | libsqliteodbc | tdsodbc | mdbtools: ODBC
   drivers for:
   - MySQL
   - PostgreSQL
   - SQLite
   - MS SQL / Sybase SQL
   - *.mdb (JET / MS Access)
 * libmysql-java | libpg-java: JDBC Drivers
   for:
   - MySQL
   - PostgreSQL
----

Please, see too that the OpenOffice Project is soponsored by SUN and remember that SUN did buy the MySQL Project, then I think that very soon OO-base and MySQL will work better.

Let me know is this answer your question.

   sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude install openoffice.org-base

This will update your repositories, and then will install de package base of
the openoffice project..

Just set up Ubuntu on my laptop and wanted to also to have access to a database program. OpenOffice's Base program can be loaded thru the GUI: Applications \ Ubuntu Software Center. Type in BASE in the search field and select 'OpenOffice.org Database' to install. This will include all the necessary ancillary files. Good Luck

Can you help with this problem?
