How to insert image permnently in OO Writer document

Asked by mwlandolsi

Wen pasting or inserting image from a web page or local drive in Microsoft office Word, the picture is saved directly in the .doc file and you do not need any more connection or the file at the driver location to be displayed in the document. In OO Writer, when I paste a picture from a local drive or web location, when I open this file .odt on an other computer, the picture could not be displayed an I see only the link for the originally pasted image ?

You can save your image to the hard drive and in OO Writer go to Insert->Image->From File... and insert the image in the document.

After that you can delete the image and open you document anywhere.

Think you for your answer.
But this is a long procedure. I want it to be simply copy and paste. is it possible?

I have done the following test:

1. In Windows XP, right clicked a picture, selected copy. Then opened a blank Writer document, pasted the picture into it and saved it (as odt).
2. Copied the file to my USB pen drive.
3. In Ubuntu, mounted the USB pen drive and opened the document. The picture was still displayed.
4. In Ubuntu, with the document still open, copied an image from a web page to the document and saved it.
5. Unmounted the USB pen drive, and plugged it into my Asus EEE PC. Opened the document in OpenOffice on the EEE PC. The pictures were still there.

What are you doing different to me?

In Firefox there are two options - Copy Image and Copy Image Location. Copy Image copies the picture and Copy Image Location, copies the link (i.e the URL as a text string).

In Nautilus File Manager I have to drag and drop the image to the document. Copy just pastes the link (as a text string).

Hope this helps.
