Print envelope with Laserjet

Asked by Jim Elleson

When I try to print an envelope with my Laserjet 1020, the address prints parallel to the short side of the envelope. I did Insert>Envelope, selected #10 Envelope under Paper type, tried both Portrait and Landscape, and both Manual Feeder and Automatic, in the Print Properties. Always the same result.
How can I print the envelope with the address oriented correctly? And isn't there an easy way to do it, rather than resetting printer properties every time?

Hi Jim

You shouldn't need to change your printer options. Just select the correct 'Envelope orientation' on the Printer tab (according to how you feed envelopes through your printer) and 'Env. 10' under Size on the Format tab.

Having said that, I know there used to be problems with the #10 envelope in the past. Maybe there still are problems, so try using the DL size and see if that prints correctly. DL is almost the same size as the #10 .

Try out using different settings with plain paper so save on spoilt envelopes.

Ok, that worked, thanks. I thought that was what I was doing before.
I liked the way MS Word allowed me to select some text and print it to an envelope. Does Oo have a similar capability, or do I need to insert a separate envelope page into every document for which I want to print an envelope?

I use a macro to do this with OpenOffice it is something like this

http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?p=88790

I have this macro on another pc into a different place, where i work, so i can tell better in the next days.

You only need to have an envelope document template.

i think you will find more using http://www.oooforum.org/forum/search.phtml OpenOffice Forum

Hope this helps
