OpenOffice 3 Beta 2 Problem with Extension Manager

Asked by Myroslav

I am using Ubuntu 8.04.1 kernel 2.6.24.20-generic. I am trying out the latest release of oo3 (beta 2, build 9328). When I click on Tools>Extension Manager, I get essentially a blank screen except for the buttons labeled "Help", "Add", "Close" across the bottom of the screen and a hyperlink item "Get more extensions here". With oo2.4.1 one finds under Tools>Extension Manager, directory items such as "My extensions" and "Openoffice.org extensions" but nothing like that appears with my version of oo3. When I try to add an extension to my version of oo3, the program shuts down immediately. I am, therefore, unable to add extensions. Have I done something wrong, or is this beta version of oo3 unable to handle extensions yet?

The hint would be in the BETA part of the title. It is expected to have bugs, and is still in testing, my suggestion would be reporting it to the OOo devs.

YYou are right. Ubuntu launchpad is not the forum for this issue. I will try the link you suggested.

Please try this post beta 2 builds... http://ftp.linux.cz/pub/localization/OpenOffice.org/devel/DEV300/?C=M;O=D
i suggest you the m28 builds that i use on Ubuntu, then open a terminal and type:

cd
wget http://ftp.linux.cz/pub/localization/OpenOffice.org/devel/DEV300/DEV300_m28/Build-1/OOo_DEV300_m28_LinuxX86_install_en-US_deb.tar.gz
tar xvzf OOo_DEV300_m28_LinuxX86_install_en-US_deb.tar.gz
cd DEBS
sudo dpkg -i *.deb

give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter, then type:

cd ..
rm -fr DEBS
cd /opt/openoffice.org3/program
./soffice

Then create a desktop icon that run the /opt/openoffice.org3/program/soffice program

Hope this helps

Then you can update your OpenOffice 3 builds from this link:
http://ftp.linux.cz/pub/localization/OpenOffice.org/devel/DEV300/?C=M;O=D
Sometimes the tar.gz builds may get you error on install so keep your old working: .tar.gz file.

in this case the OOo_DEV300_m28_LinuxX86_install_en-US_deb.tar.gz

The newest build http://ftp.linux.cz/pub/localization/OpenOffice.org/devel/DEV300/DEV300_m29/Build-1/OOo_DEV300_m29_LinuxX86_install_en-US_deb.tar.gz give me errors on install, so i have suggest you the previous one.
