go to "Applications>Add/Remove"

-click the drop down menu in the top left side and select the 'Installed Applications' option

-search for 'OpenOffice'

-Uncheck anything that pops up as checked

-Click 'Apply'

No more OpenOffice!
then, to reinstall it:

go to "Applications>Add/Remove"

-click the drop down menu in the top left side and select the 'All Available Applications' option

-search for 'OpenOffice'

-Check whichever OpenOffice options you want (usually Writer, Calc, and Impress)

-Click 'Apply'

and youre done!

Hope thats helpful!

I cannot uncheck OpenOffice Draw. It says something is using it but no info on what might be using it or how to resolve.

If you are getting that message, then i'd assue that you are trying to remove it through "Add/Remove." sometimes this will happen if the program you are trying to remove is in use, or if some of that program's dependencies are still required by another program that you aren't asking to remove, in this case, other openoffice components id guess. luckily, this is an easy fix.

if you're determined to remove openoffice draw, then all you need to do is this:
1. go to Synaptic via "System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager." type in your password when prompted
2. search for "openoffice draw"
3. when the search finishes, uncheck the "openoffice.org-draw" package that is displayed
4. click "Apply"

and there you go! just keep in mind that this will remove the drawing functionality from your openoffice completely, and it doesnt save that much space on your hard drive (a few MB at most). if you are just removing it because you are picky like me and dont want the icon under 'Applications > office' then you might want to do this instead:

1. right click on the icon next to the "Applications Places System" bar, and select "edit menus"
2. when the menu editor pops up, find the 'Office' entry in the left hand column and click it.
3. uncheck the box next to the 'OpenOffice.org Draw' entry
