quotation characters input on keyboard not working

Asked by Mathew John

I am having difficulty with inputting the single and double quote characters that I want.

I have gone to auto correct/custom quotation and chosen the character i want but my choice does not get selected in the document.

I think there is a keyboard issue on my laptop because i have to press the quote button twice before i get the existing quotation character to be outputted on the page.

Can I get some help on this?

Thanks, Mathew

might be caused by your chosen keyboard layout...
try:
system > settings > keyboard > layout
and add a us - keyboard (standard, without dead keys)
you can try the settings in this dialog as well

Matthew:

1) try again experimenting with some different keyboard layouts.

2) you write "I think there is a keyboard issue on my laptop because i have to press the quote button twice before i get the existing quotation character to be outputted on the page.".
What happens if you use some other editor than OpenOffice.org? F.ex. the simple text editor (gedit) ?

Workaround in OpenOffice.org: choose Insert | Special character
General workaround: Right-click on top bar, and add Character Pallette.

Got the same problem in my Thinkpad R61i running Intrepid

Problem also happens when using other text editor (Gedit)

Solved by: changing the keyboard layout to US (not international or with dead keys)
(Initially I set the keyboard layout to US International with dead keys)

Can you help with this problem?
