AltSearch extension window too small, but size is fixed

Asked by Gerbert

I have installed the AltSearch extension under Oo 2.4/Ubuntu 8.04, but when I want to use it, the pop-up window shows only the upper left quarter what it should be: It is som small that I cannot enter my 'search criteria' or the items that I want to replace it with. Under Windows XP and Oo 2.4 everything works fine though. How can I adjust the window size of this extension in Oo 2.4/Ubuntu 8.04?

By the way: the window size is fixed: there is no option to enlarge ort maximize it (these options are disabled).

I am having the exact same problem here.

I just found out that the window size of the extension is on my machine in a mysterious way linked to the Ubuntu Visual Effects (System, Preferences, Appearance, Visual Effects); if set to 'Normal', the problems with a too small window turn op, when set to 'None' the extension shows up normally.

Still no clue why this is the case, and if the extension can be improved to solve this appearance problem.

I can confirm the same behaviour with completely different extension (TypoJTB). When I am running Compiz (visual effects), all the extension's windows have the same fixed size. However, when I use Metacity, windows have the right size. It is possibly related to this bug - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/149586
I think that problem is either in OpenOffice or in Compiz, but not in the extension itself.

The easiest workaround is to use Compiz Switch to temporarily turn off the effects - see http://forlong.blogage.de/article/pages/Compiz-Switch
But yeah, it's annoying.

Can you help with this problem?
