How can I convert a pdf document in odt format?

Asked by enzo strazzera

I have to edit a document - text and pictures - and I have only a pdf file (we loose the original document in some upgrade of a n old pc). It's possible to upload it in OOword processor (how?) or convert it in another format from which extract it in OO? Thanks for the help.

OO.o can not import PDFs, even though it can save as a PDF.

You can buy a copy of Adobe Acrobat so that you can edit PDF files and run it through wine, you can see the report on the WineHQ website http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=4922&iTestingId=7049

Importing the text would be pretty simple, open the pdf, select the text, copy and paste it into your new document. As far as the images, if you don't need great quality you can do a 'screenshot' and extract the pictures.

More on this: GNU/Linux has a lot of clever tools to do practically all tasks. Most of them, however, are command-line utilities. It's worth spending some time to find it and learn its usage. For example:

pdfimages - Portable Document Format (PDF) image extractor
pdftotext - Portable Document Format (PDF) to text converter
pstoedit - PostScript and PDF files to editable vector graphics converter

Hope this helps

Open Office now has a pdf importer: http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/pdfimport

There is also a package in the repository called 'pdfedit' that works well.

Pdfimport can open and import pdf using OpenOffice Draw and we can edit the lines of text one by one
But we cannot consider it, for now, as a complete pdf editor like Acrobat.

Hope this helps
